The Threefold Lotus Sutra manifests the spirit of the One Buddha Vehicle--the unity of all things. The One Vehicle is considered to be the very awakening of Shakyamuni. It means that the Buddha's teachings are to lead all human beings to buddhahood.
The One Buddha Vehicle says that all Buddhist paths and practices lead to Buddhahood and are, therefore, all "skillful means" of reaching Buddhahood.
At the same time, it means that the Dharma (the Truth) permeates the universe and that all things are sustained as a single form of life.
At the heart of the Lotus Sutra are the three concepts of One Vehicle Buddhism.
All beings have the buddha nature or the seed for becoming a buddha.
The Buddha energy/consciousness is eternal, existing from the infinite past and appearing in many forms throughout the ages to guide people through the Dharma.
The noblest form of Buddhist practice is the way of the Bodhisattva. Bodhisattvas seek enlightenment not only for themselves but also for others.
The Lotus Sutra's teachings are human dignity, perfectibility, and peace for all people. By understanding, accepting, and practicing the teachings, human beings can gradually approach a state of mind free from delusions while leading ordinary lives. In addition, they devote themselves to one another's happiness. They improve themselves and make the world a better and more beautiful place. Wishing for others' well-being is the ideal of those who practice the message of the Lotus Sutra.
Rissho Kosei-kai believes the One Buddha Vehicle is so universal and practical that it is, in fact, common to all the world's religions. It is relevant for people everywhere.
