Kosho Niwano, President-designate, was born in 1968. She is the eldest daughter of the current President, Nichiko Niwano. In 1994, she was appointed to take the third presidential position after her father, President Nichiko.
She received a law degree from Gakushuin University in Tokyo. She further studied at Rissho Kosei-kai's Gakurin Seminary.
She married Rev. Munehiro in 1995 and then moved to Italy, where her husband studied and returned in 2002. She deeply adored her grandfather, Founder Niwano, while she was growing up in his atmosphere. When she was appointed as the third president, she received words from Founder Niwano, "Everything is all right when you do things honestly with a sincere mind." She was encouraged by his words. She is the mother of one son and three daughters.
Currently, Rev. Kosho shares the teachings of the Lotus Sutra with worldwide leaders and members who visit Rissho Kosei-kai's headquarters in Tokyo. She has also visited countries in Asia and Africa to help with their problems and sufferings.
The president-designate also promotes interreligious cooperation. Kosho Niwano is currently the co-moderator of Religions for Peace (RfP) International. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of KAICIID (King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue).
Rev. Niwano published her first book in English, The Buddha in Everyone's Heart in 2013.
